After a rest stop in Singapore, the tour continues to Chennai, formerly known as Madras, where the highlight is a visit to the ancient cities of Kancheepuram and Mamallapuram to see the best examples of rock temples. Continue on to Madurai for two nights where you have the opportunity to attend the evening puja services at Meenakshi Temple with its famous hall of thousand pillars. The private motor coach will continue on through coffee and spice plantations to Periyar Wild Life Sanctuary; animal viewing here is done by boat with sightings of elephants, deer, Indian bison and possibly, tigers. Next stop is the backwaters city of Kumarakom for some rest, relaxation and a backwater cruise – a fascinating look at a peaceful, calm way of life. Last stop in South India is Cochin with its Chinese fishing nets, Matancherry Palace, Synagogue and a wonderful Kathakali dance performance. A short flight brings you to beautiful and green country of Sri Lanka to see many World Heritage Sites.. Next three nights are spent in Dambulla with sightseeing excursions to Dambulla Caves, Polonnaruwa, Anuradhpura and an opportunity to climb 1000 steps to the top of Sigiriya rock fortress. A simply beautiful country drive takes you to Kandy after a stop at a Spice Garden to learn about herbs; Kandy is famous for the sacred Tooth Temple. Another beautiful drive brings you to Nuwara Eliya – a bit of England in the middle of Tea plantations! Continue on to Colombo after a fascinating stop at Pinnewalla Elephant Orphanage – always a favorite!
